OUR BIBLICAL STAND
|
| |
The comments on these groups and their music are not intended to be mean or cruel. My goal is not to influence you to hate these people but to reveal doctrinal error based on the Word of God. We should not hate them but love them in Christ. When my girls disobey me I don’t hate them but I reveal the error of their way. I continue to love them either way. I am not suggesting that these people are lost and going to hell. They are lost only if they have not trusted Christ alone as their Saviour and repented of their sin. Our stand on doctrine is to preach and to teach “no other doctrine” than what is found in the Bible. That is the strictest stand that an individual or church can take, and we take it. That is exactly what Paul was telling Timothy to live by and to teach others. In 1 Timothy 1:3-4 Paul said, “As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.”
Romans 16:17-18 “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”
2 Thessalonians 3:6 “Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.”
2 Thessalonians 3:14 “And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.”
Ephesians 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
Ephesians 4:14 “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;”
Galatians 1:6-8 “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
Titus 1:9-11 “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.”
1 Timothy 4:16 “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”
2 Timothy 4:2-4 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
Titus 1:13-14 “This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.”
Titus 2:7-8 “In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.”
2 John 1:9-11 “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”
All comments will be mine unless other wise stated. Some will be from Way of Life, by David Cloud. I would recommend very highly all of his books, video tapes, messages, and subscribing to his monthly newspaper. He also has a great website at http://www.wayoflife.org it is AWESOME! One thing about Brother Cloud he does his research, in fact, that is what his whole ministry is about. It “is a 32 year old Fundamental Baptist preaching and publishing ministry. The goal of Way of Life is to stand for the truth of God’s Word without compromise and to produce well-documented materials to strengthen New Testament churches in these apostate days.” This quote is from his publications catalog 2007, page 2.
"But you know it's strange, the same music that they kicked me out of school for is the same kind of music they play in their churches today. The difference is, I know I am playing for the devil and they don't." Jerry Lee Lewis

Aaron Shust
When visiting Aaron's website, there is no doctinal statement as to where he stands on doctinal issues. The reason for that is because he does not stand for anything that is Biblical. When he does quote from what he calls the Bible, it is not the King James Version. He is popular with the world so that goes to show he is in the world and a friend of the world. His hair is definitly long and therefore disobedient to Scripture. 1 Corinthians 11:14 "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?"
After listening to about two minutes of what he calls worship music (noise), I had to turn it off because I couldn't stand it. Aaron's music is the same type of rock music I use to listen to, just different lyrics. Here is a quote directly from his website telling us what has influenced him in his music. "As a teenager Aaron learned to play the guitar and was influenced by the sounds of the sixties and Motown." After going to Aaron's Myspace another longer list of those who have influenced him is given. "Under the influence of GOD, My parents, U2 (Unforgetable Fire+), Sigur Ros!, the 1960's (Motown, Beach Boys, the British Invasion), Bob Marley, ColdPlay, Switchfoot, Delirious!, 311, SEAL, Sting, Alanis, Chicago, dcTalk, Michael W Smith, Jack Johnson, Oasis, Elvis, Mozart. The Bible, Rob Bell, Brian McLaren, Frank Peretti, JRR Tolkein, Donald Miller, the outcome of Pittsburgh Steeler games, Mayfield Moose Tracks, blue skies and sunshine, days over 80 degrees, Palm trees and the ocean." "When I'm old I want to write soundtracks for epic movies, or write the music for Mitsubishi commercials...those rock." This is all garbage and wicked.

Amy Grant
"AMY GRANT is among the CCM artists who have had interviews published in the Roman Catholic youth magazine YOU (The Fundamentalist Digest, May-June 1992). Kathy Troccoli was the backup singer for Amy Grant before she began her own recording career in 1982. In 1994 the Catholic St. John’s University gave its highest award, the Pax Christi, to Grant (Houston Chronicle, May 7, 1994). Pax Christi is the radical International Catholic Peace Movement." Barlow Girls
Alyssa said when asked these questions, “What's on your ipod? Joyce Meyers Pod casts and videos, Fernando Ortega Hymns album, Leeland, all my Broadway cd's, Hillsong, Frank Sinatra, Ella, Harry Connick Jr., Josh Groban, and pictures of my family.” “Where do you get your music inspirations (since everyone always asks this question)? We were raised on the oldies. The Beatles, Mamas and the Papas, James Taylor and just about everything else. So that is how it all began..." “What's the Holy Spirit speaking to you about these days? To praise no matter what.” These are direct quotes taken from the website of the Barlow Girls under their “About” tab describing them as a group and as individuals. Rebecca when giving her favorites was asked, “Favorite Hymn” she said, “Hymn: if I could think of one I'd write it down.” She also said, “What's on your ipod? Zola Levitt, Joyce Meyers and Todd Bentley pod casts. Where do you get your music inspirations (since everyone always asks this question)? I have no clue. I guess life is it. Everything I hear and observe inspires our music. “All of this is reason enough not to listen to their rock and pop style music. They have women preachers, the world’s music like The Beatles, that influences them in their lives and in their music. When you go to their website, you will find that they do direct you to page called, “Find Hope” that directs you to the New Evangelical website of Campus Crusade for Christ International. It gives you a watered down plan of salvation that leads to hell. The Barlow Girls website does not quote from the King James Bible but from other corrupt bibles such as the NIV that is based on the critical Greek and Hebrew manuscripts. Their music sounds just like the worlds, the same type of garbage I use to listen to when I was in the world. The lyrics in their “Sweet Revenge”, “The Guy Song”, song does even mention God, Jesus, the Bible or anything close to it. There are probably others, but I have only looked at a few. I did look at the lyrics of “Keep Quiet”, and it does mention the name Jesus. It speaks about us speaking out to the world and being different so the world can know that we are. The only problem with this is that this song sounds like the world’s music, they dress like the world, they use the world’s Bible, and they are ashamed of their doctrine because they don’t give it. What is the world suppose to think? They’ll love them, because they fit right in with the rest of them in the world.
********************
In a interview with Kim Jones, Lauren is asked some questions and here are her answers. “How do you find time to stay in touch with God and stay grounded when you're on the road? Do ya'll do Bible studies?
Lauren - Yes. I think the coolest thing is that before we even got signed, as a family, we would take prayer time every single day for a couple of hours. And we'd listen to teaching tapes and we'd take our worship time. God even took it further and we were actually having church at home. We didn't know why God removed us from our church and had us doing church at home, but finding out now, it's because we're never home on Sunday. We're not home to go to church. God was preparing the way before we even knew what was going on. We have to worship every single day. We can't go on a day without that. We are covered by a church though. It's not like we're out here on our own. There is a church back home in Elgin, in the Chicago area, that is our covering. We each have prayer partners that we can call anytime. They're always covering us, always praying for us just so we do have that head pastoral covering over us, but we are, I guess, a little church on our own. Kim said, ‘That is just awesome. My band does a lot of our own studies. Right now we're studying Joyce Meyer's "How to Hear From God’. Lauren - Oh my gosh! She is our favorite speaker ... ever! I love her so much. We've done all of her stuff. She is just so amazing. I think we listen to one of her tapes every single day. She is just so good.” Alyssa - “I love her teachings. She's so wise when it comes to Scripture. I just love hearing her insight and the depth that she studies. You know, things that I would have never even thought of ... it's just amazing. How do you girls mix music and ministry? Alyssa - I think what God has done in our hearts from the beginning was to raise us up to be ministers first and foremost. He didn't say "Girls, you're going to be in a band". He said "Girls, you are my ministers. You are my leaders. You are my teachers". And he trained us in that first. He trained us how to be teachers and how to minister to people, and then on the side, we had done the music thing. It was part of our family. We grew up doing music. He brought it together, kind of at the last minute, and said "Now you're going to use music as the tool to get the ministry out there." It was a cool twist. It's awesome that we get to be in a rock band! We get to enjoy it and have fun, but at the same time, we know that we are ministers first. We are using this music as a teaching tool in a way. Through this song, is how I'm going to get this point across. It's been a really cool journey with Him and how He did that.” How do you feel, when you are in front of huge crowds, that you make a connection with them?
Lauren - “I think that we just share our lives on stage. We want to come across as being just like everybody else. We're just like you. We struggle with stuff. We just want to connect with people in the audience and be like "we're just like you". Everybody has a calling on their life. This is just the calling that we have. You have just as much of a calling. We just want to show everybody that we're just like everybody else. I think that's the way we connect. We just try to be real. We just try to be who we are and never something that we're not on stage.” A lot of Christian artists now are either moving more toward a secular market, or they say that is what they want to do. What do you think about that and is it a path that you would like to see the BarlowGirls follow? Alyssa - “I think that for us personally, if God chose to use us in the secular market, I would be surprised. Kind of like I was surprised by us getting signed, as well. Personally, we never plan on being like "Oohh, let's cross over. Let's try to reach..." Although I'd love to see everybody reached with the message of who my God is and with our story and what we have to share. I think if God chooses that for us, we'd really have to be careful. It's got to be a tough place to have to walk through without compromise.” Kim - There are those out there who are very vocal in saying that Christian rock is too "worldly" to be acceptable to Christ. Do ya'll ever have to deal with that? Alyssa - You know, we've actually never really encountered any comments like that. The comments we get more are "wow ... you girls are a little too vocal and you say a little too much". (laughs) But with the whole rock music kind of feel we haven't really heard that yet.” As you can see there is a whole lot wrong with this group’s doctrine maybe that is why they don’t give a doctrinal statement. They admit that they are a rock band, that they are trying to be like this world, being a secular rock group is okay with them, and they disobey God’s Word by not going to church. They themselves said they go to their own church. The Bible says in Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” The Bible says in “1 John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:17 “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,”

Chris Tomlin
After going to Chris Tomlins website and reading numerous pages of stuff, fan mail or "testimonies" as they call it, not even his blogsite never once did I read or find any information on his doctrinal statement. Could not find his stand on the Word of God, his position with the Roman Catholic Church, his stand against rock music, drugs, cursing, liquor, men with long hair, immodesty, modernist, New Evangelical philosophy, etc. The fact is the only thing that was real clear was his up coming concerts, how great he was, what he has done, his Grammy’s, etc. Chris’s response to an interview concerning how amazing songs, lyrics, and melody so powerfully shape people and movements. Chris said, "And that is why it is important as well that we write songs that are teaching the right things. Songs are so influential because they shape people, whether we know it or not." Chris must not know it either or he is ashamed of what he believes, or maybe he doesn't believe anything at all because he does not give us a clue as to his doctrine which is more important than his concert dates, or how many Grammy’s he has won. The Bible tells us to test things by their doctrine compared to the Word of God. That is how we know if we are to listen to Chris, buy his music, go to his concerts, etc. Most people will run after anything as long as it has the name of Christian in front of it. I’m afraid that this is what happens to a lot of modern Christians because they are part of the New Evangelical belief which is opposed to be separated from this world and says that we should break down the walls that are separating us.
"In the article, “Hip Hymns Are Him,” TIME says Tomlin “thinks of himself less as a musician and more as a worship leader. Tomlin is the chief American practitioner of the pop-sounding ‘praise and worship’ music that has replaced traditional hymns in congregations looking for a younger crowd.” (www.time.com)" This is reason enough not to listen to him or buy his music. We do not need our traditional hymns replaced. This is the same modernistic view that we need the King James Bible replaced.
Chris Tomlin recorded the hymn "Amazing Grace" for the new album, Music Inspired by the Motion Picture Amazing Grace, which released on January 23! Other singers are, "Music By Country Superstar Martina McBride and Christian Music’s Top Artists Including Chris Tomlin, Jars of Clay, Steven Curtis Chapman, and David Crowder." If these are such great Christians why are they involved in a movie made by the world, along with a country superstar like Martina McBride? Ephesians 5:11 "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."
This was a campaing in Atlanta in 2007. Chris Tomlin along with others came together as one (New Evangelicalism). "The Do Something Now campaign will be in the Global Awakening – World Mobilization Area at Passion 07. To keep up with the swell in registrations this year, main Passion 07 gatherings will be held in two locations, the Philips Arena – Atlanta and the Georgia World Congress Center, both in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Leading the worship, teaching and prayer gathering will be renowned speakers Louie Giglio, John Piper, Beth Moore, Francis Chan among others, as well as such acclaimed artist-worshipers as Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Charlie Hall, Matt Redman and more." Just one more reason not to listen to Chris or the rest of these CCM artist. Just look at the speakers, such as John Piper, Beth Moore (woman preaher which is unbilical), Francis Chan, etc. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." 1 Timothy 2:11-12 "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." 1 Timothy 3:2 "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;" I am not nor is the Bible saying women cannot give their testimony in church or teach a sunday school. It is saying that they cannot be a preacher or a teacher over men. God has a very special place for women in the church, but being a pastor or deacon is not one of them.

Darlene Zschech
"DARLENE ZSCHECH is another of the popular contemporary worship musicians. Her song “Shout to the Lord” is used widely in contemporary worship circles. One of Zschech’s themes is the importance of unity, which, of course, is the false ecumenical philosophy. For example, she makes the following comment about the album “You Shine” — “There is a new sound and a new song being proclaimed across the earth. It’s the sound of a unified church, coming together, in one voice to magnify our magnificent Lord” (from the album cover).
She gives no warning about the fact that vast numbers of churches are apostate and that the Bible says that unity apart from doctrinal agreement is wrong. The New Testament warns repeatedly that the end of the church age will be characterized by apostasy and spiritual confusion rather than faithfulness to the truth (i.e. Matt. 24:3-4, 11, 24; 1 Tim. 4:1-5; 2 Timothy 3:13; 4:3-4; 2 Pet. 2:1; Jude 3-4). That is precisely what we see when we look at Christianity today. Yet, the authors of most of the modern praise music give almost no warning about apostasy." By David Cloud

STEVE GREEN
This question was asked to Steve Green by MusicLine Magazine. "Question: Would it be equally possible for a Christian to minister Christ in the context of a show at Las Vegas as in a church? Steve Green: 'I don't have an answer for that. I do have personal convictions that I conduct my life by, but I'm not going to force my convictions on someone else or try to make them jump through my hoops, through the convictions I have set up for my life'" (STEVE GREEN, MusicLine magazine, Dec. 1985, p. 9).

"STRYPER's concert was a rousing rock 'n' roll show, indistinguishable from secular metal concerts. The only differences were the lyrics and the outlook--positive throughout" (The Daily Oklahoman, Oct. 18, 1985, p. 19). By David Cloud

"We listen to just about everybody. From Whitney Houston to Judas Priest. We like music in general. If we closed our minds to one particular way or one particular thing in music we wouldn't be artists. We wouldn't be able to write the kind of music we write. Of course, we're rooted and grounded so it doesn't hurt us. Somebody who can't handle themselves, listening to that kind of music might make them want to go out and booze and party and whatever" (OZ FOX, band member for STRYPER, Youth!, January 1987, p. 11).
"We always had this attitude that we didn't want to be characterized as this little religious band sold in religious bookstores and happy and content to play in a church for love offerings." (ROBERT SWEET, STRYPER, Milwaukee Journal, August 25, 1987, p. 11).
"You won't pick up this record [Against the Law] and hear anything that says 'God' or 'Christ.' That was intentionally done. We were tired of people coming back with excuses, saying, 'Sorry we can't play this.' MTV's got to play this and the radio's got to play it or it doesn't serve the purpose" (ROBERT SWEET OF STRYPER, CCM Magazine, August 1990, p. 10).
