Teen With Blood-Alcohol Content of 0.578 Survives After Weekend Party
On Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in Rohnert Park, California a 15-year-old girl almost dies from to much alcohol. The medical professionals say that she was very close to dying. She was at a party on Friday night, with no adults present.
*******
I had this same thing to "happen" to me when I was a teenager. You know, at a friends house, at a party, with little or no adult supervision. My parents didn't know what I was doing and didn't care. I turned a quart of Jack Daniels straight up and drunk the whole thing, at 14 years old. I left the party late at night walking down the road by myself. The last thing I remember before passing out was, me standing in the middle of the road on a sharp curve, and falling face down on the pavement. The next thing I remember is being in the back of a patrol car in my mom's lap, with her crying, waiting on the Ambulance to get there. Later I was told that the alcohol content almost killed me, along with the couple who almost ran over me in the middle of the road on a sharp curve. Thank God I have never touched the posion again.
The fact is I was out of God's will, and running from Him. I also chose the world as my friends, and it almost cost me my life. My parents had no care in the world as to who I was with, what I was doing, where I was at, and who was there with me. In fact, that very night my dad got drunk, along with my sister, for they too were running from God and His will for their lives.
I don't know who this little girls parents are, or where they were at during this. This day in time most parents don't know where their kids are, and don't care. In fact, they just want them out of the way, so they can be alone and do their own thing. In fact I am so sure of this, I would be willing to say that these very parents drink some type of alcohol. I say that because most people see nothing wrong with drinking. Even "Christians" think that it is okay to have a social drink as they call it. These parents are setting a bad example if that is the case. My parents did to for a while. They told me not to drink, while they dranked a beer, being two faced. It's like telling a child not to smoke, all the while they are blowing smoke in their little faces. We need some parents in America who will get right with God, and repent of their sins. Turn from their wicked ways, and stop living for the world and start living for God. To get out of their beer drinking, social club churches, and get in a old time, old fashion, hell fire and brimestone, Bible believing, King James Only, Independent, Fundamental Baptist Church, that preaches against sin, that stands on the Word of God, that has a preacher that doens't wear lace on his underware, that has a backbone, that believes EVERY WORD in the Bible is true, that preaches separation from the world and sin. This will be a great start in raising our kids in America. Will they be perfect? NO, but they'll be better off.
I'm not putting all the blame on this girl's parents or on mine. The fact is I chose the world's crowd, just like this girl did, and so many like us. She made some very bad choices that night that started a long time before that night ever begin. Normally it's not just one bad choice that gets us, it's a series of bad decisions that destroy us. Wrong friends, wrong language, wrong dress, wrong attitude, wrong actions, wrong reactions, wrong friends, wrong advice, wrong church, wrong Bible, wrong motives, all add up to a wrecked life if one is not carefull.
Psalms 1:1-6 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish."

Beer In Churches

THOSE BEER SWILLING CHURCHES (Friday Church News Notes, March 7, 2008, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - A growing number of “evangelical” churches are getting into the beer drinking habit. Mars Hill Church in Seattle has beer-brewing lessons and sets up a champagne bar at its New Year’s Eve rock parties. Riverview Community Church in Holt, Michigan, has a RiverBrew night featuring homebrewed beer and religious discussion. When asked what Jesus would drink, ministry leader Brett Maxwell replies, “I believe he would sit down with people in the bar, and he would drink what they were drinking, and he would be happy to do that” (“Holt Ministry Celebrates Its Love of God and Beer,” Lansing State Journal, Feb. 29, 2008). The Journey in St. Louis hosts a “Theology at the Bottleworks” where participants “grab a beer and discuss political or spiritual topics, such as the role of women in society, the legal system, or animal rights” (“Brewing Battle: Missouri Baptists Frown on Beer as Evangelistic Hook,” Christianity Today, June 29, 2007). In the book Listening to the Beliefs of Emerging Churches, beer drinking is mentioned probably a dozen times by the various contributors, both conservative and liberal. Jim West has written “Drinking with Calvin and Luther” to promote the idea that alcoholic beverages are a gift from God. He says, “They reveled in it as a gift of God,” but the Protestant Reformers are not our authority. They also “baptized” babies and drowned Baptists! It is true that there are instances in the Old Testament in which God allowed His people Israel to drink alcoholic wine, but there are many things in the O.T. that we do not practice today. I believe that Christians today should not drink alcoholic beverages for the following three reasons, among others. 1. THE BIBLE WARNS THAT WINE AND STRONG DRINK IS A MOCKER AND DECEIVES MEN (Prov. 20:1). To say that alcoholic beverages can be consumed in moderation sounds reasonable, but very few drunks have ever set out to be a drunk. It is an irrefutable fact that a man that does not drink will never get drunk and will certainly never become a drunk. All of the evangelical drinkers admit that the Bible forbids drunkenness, but all of their talk about the delights of beer drinking, of “a Guinness” and “a round of imperial pints,” makes me wonder if they don’t sometimes get a bit tipsy at their beer confabs, not to say drunk! How inebriated does one have to be to be drunk? 2. THE BIBLE COMMANDS THE BELIEVER NOT TO GIVE OFFENSE IN ANYTHING (1 Cor. 10:32-33). The possibility that a Christian would cause offense because of his drinking is very great in modern society. What about our example to the many people who have an addiction to alcohol? Paul was willing to stop eating meat entirely in this present world if he thought someone would be injured thereby and his testimony hurt (1 Cor. 8:13), and eating meat is a perfectly legitimate activity. How much more should a believer be willing to give up alcoholic beverages, which are questionable at best and have the potential in themselves to cause harm (which meat does not)? 3. THE BIBLE COMMANDS THE BELIEVER TO ABSTAIN FROM ALL APPEARANCE OF EVIL (1 Thess. 5:22). That is a far reaching exhortation. Alcoholic beverages are a great evil and curse in modern society. Consider the automobile wrecks, the disease, the adulteries, the lewdness, the blasphemy, the divorces, the neglected children, the abused wives, the waste of money, the gambling, the pure foolishness. In January 2005 the Royal College of Physicians in England warned that Britain is suffering from an epidemic of alcohol-related problems that is fuelling violence and illness throughout the country (The Telegraph, Jan. 3, 2005). If anything has the appearance of evil today, it is alcoholic beverages, and the Bible does not suggest that we abstain from all appearance of evil; it commands us to do so!

Saved From Alcohol

"Many years ago in St. Louis, a lawyer visited a Christian to transact some business. Before the two parted, his client said to him, "I've often wanted to ask you a question, but I've been afraid to do so." "What do you want to know?" asked the lawyer. The man replied, "I've wondered why you're not a Christian." The man hung his head, "I know enough about the Bible to realize that it says no drunkard can enter the kingdom of God; and you know my weakness!" "You're avoiding my question," continued the believer. "Well, truthfully, I can't recall anyone ever explaining how to become a Christian." Picking up a Bible, the client read some passages showing that all are under condemnation, but that Christ came to save the lost by dying on the cross for their sins. "By receiving Him as your Substitute and Redeemer," he said, "you can be forgiven. If you're willing to receive Jesus, let's pray together." The lawyer agreed, and when it was his turn he exclaimed, "O Jesus, I am a slave to drink. One of your servants has shown me how to be saved. O God, forgive my sins and help me overcome the power of this terrible habit in my life." Right there he was converted. That lawyer was C.I. Scofield, who later edited the reference Bible that bears his name."

Statistics
2002- 2.3% of Americans 18 and older reported alcohol-impaired driving, 2.1% in 1997.
2006, an estimated 17,602 people died in alcohol-related traffic crashes—one every 30 minutes.
Thats 41 percent of the 42,642 total traffic fatalities.
3 in every 10 Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives.
In 2002, surveys estimates that Americans took over 159 million alcohol-impaired driving trips, compared with only 116 million in 1997.
Approximately 1.4 million drivers were arrested in 2004 for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. This is an arrest rate of 1 for every 139 licensed drivers in the United States (2005 data not yet available).

Washington DC: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2006. http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-30/NCSA/TSF2005/AlcoholTSF05.pdf In 2006, 83 percent of tenth graders reported that alcohol is “very easy” or “fairly easy” to get. This is down from 90 percent a decade earlier. [ref.]
About 91 percent of all drinks consumed by teenagers are consumed by those who drink heavily. [ref.]

[ref.]
Quinlan, Kyran P., et al. “Alcohol-Impaired Driving Among US Adults, 1993-2002.” American Journal of Preventive Medicine 28 (4) (2005): 346-350.
The rate of alcohol involvement in fatal crashes is more than 3 times higher at night than during the day (59 percent vs. 18 percent). For all crashes, the alcohol involvement rate is 5 times higher at night (16 percent vs. 3 percent). [ref.]

Alcohol-related crashes in the United States cost the public an estimated $114.3 billion in 2000, including $51.1 billion in monetary costs and an estimated $63.2 billion in quality of life losses. People other than the drinking driver paid $71.6 billion of the alcohol-related crash bill, which is 63 percent of the total cost of these crashes.
Over half of drivers arrested for drunk driving in the nation are repeat offenders, according to a 2003 AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety study. Two-thirds of drivers with suspended licenses still drive.

Why do teens drink? 66% cited stress and boredom, 25% said they drink to get high, and 31 percent said they drink alone. In 1989 3000 teens between the ages of 15 and 19 died in alcohol-related auto accidents. The favored drink among teenagers is wine coolers, but many choose beer because it is cheaper and easier to get. Students annually consume 35 percent of all wine coolers sold in the U.S. or 31 million gallons. They also consume 1.1 billion cans of beer, or 102 million gallons.

By the time young people reach the 10th grade, only three in ten are non-drinkers. Results of a study indicate that about a third of high school students are moderate to heavy drinkers in the classification of the scientists who organized students into six categories: abstainers, infrequent, light, moderate, moderate-to- heavy and heavy drinkers. Ease of availability is related to heavier drinking. Those states that allow 18-year-olds to purchase alcohol have heavier drinking.
